Crans Ambassador resort – Crans Montana

Picking up the right ski location for the winter holidays can be a hard. It depends on the person / family’s profile, level of ski knowledge, and interest…

When in central Europe, we are all very spoiled with the choices we have… Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria… all have amazing resorts with a lot to offer!

A couple of weeks ago, my family and I went to the famous Swiss resort in the Valais called Crans Montana.

Crans Montana is not a single city but a combination of a few villages which create the resort. The side Montana has a lovely village full of cafes, and trendy shops, including luxurious brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Bally and the Crans side has also a very lovely village with more traditional restaurants and shops, as well as a large ice ring and a casino. For me a ski resort must have other sources of entertainment rather than only skiing… the simple reason is because I dont ski…

The resort has the most amazing hotel – The Crans Ambassador. Probably the hotel with most beautiful mountains view I have ever seen.

The hotel is situated 2 minutes walking to the lift of Crans which is super convenient for the skiers! My husband keeps telling me how much he dread walking with his ski boots… well, not much of an encouragement when I am not really used to them either.

For the non skiers like me… the hotel is a proper paradise… The rooms are extremely comfortable with an amazing view of the Alps which one can spend the day admiring out of the balconies. Also, the common areas are large open spaces, beautifully decorated in the best of “Alps style” creating large and pleasant lounges to be visited before and after skiing.

However the highlight of the hotel is the spectacular terrace which overlooks the mountains. The terrace has an almost 24 hours fireplace with fur sofas all around it… A total invitation to observe the silent and peaceful beauty of the Alps… I myself sat there for a couple of hours without realising time has passed so quickly.

Also a fabulous hotel feature is its swimming pool which oversees the same mountains (one floor down to the terrace) connected to the most amazing spa with hammans and saunas.  I was not skiing I took the chance to swim in the turquoise swimming pool and also I had the most amazing hot stone massage. Hotel spas are a crucial part of my hotel criteria…. The Crans Ambassador has an amazing one!

But my weekend was not only in.. I went out and took the lift to meet my husband for a drink at the top of the mountain… which had a priceless view of the whole valley.  I always get flabbergasted with the view of the Swiss Alps… Maybe because I did not grow up looking at it every day, I simply dont take it for granted. The beauty of it explodes into my head and makes me want to take it all in… No matter how many times I look at it… It still takes my breath away.

Going back to the hotel… I must put a word to the restaurant service… which was an absolute delight.. The hotel has 3 restaurants… one a bit more gastronomic, a bistrot, and a classic fondue / raclette one…

We ate at the 2 first ones… and I can only say they were great… my kids eat pretty much everything… but kids being kids… they love burgers and chips…

My husband and I eyed our kids burgers but we decided to try “adult” food… no regrets… everything we ate was absolutely delicious… which for me is a great great plus… as after a whole day out, not necessarily one wants to go out and look for a restaurant and therefore, having a great restaurant at the hotel is more than convenient…

A great highlight for me was also the breakfast… I LOVE HOTEL BREAKFASTS… OMG… the fact that you have all the breads, cheeses, meat cuts, fruits and cereals… ready to eat… is just too good…

I am not a woman of habit but  confess I can be lazy when it comes to peel fruits and do this and that… so when I have it ready to eat… I just dive in… yummy, yummy yummy…

The hotel valorised the use of local products, such as cheese, honey and bread… for me this is also a great plus… as it demonstrates the value it is given to the local savoir faire…

When I look back, I dont think we would have picked a better hotel to go skiing than the Crans Ambassador… the level of services was so good that my husband felt that the kids were feeling too spoiled…

I know that when one goes on holidays we pretty much expect stress free but at the Crans Ambassador that reaches a total different level… staff is so helpful that makes one feels extremely well taken care of. I would not hesitate to go back and actually we are already thinking of our next visit.

Hope we will bump at each other there!
